Frugal February

I have never been on a spending ban but always wanted to try it. I already decided not to buy any make-up or skin care product this year unless I have finished everything related in my stash (like using soaps after finishing shower gels).
Frugal February idea appealed to me

I decided to make my own rules :)
- Don't buy any clothes, shoes, bags, accessories and other stuff you don't REALLY need
- Don't buy any non-alcoholic drinks, just drink tea and water
- Absolutely no make-up, shampoos, soaps etc.
- No household chemicals, use what you have and improvise if you run out of something. You will be surprised how little you actually need
- No magazines, books, DVDs, iPad apps
- No pre-packaged food, it is too expensive and quite often is very unhealthy

I am still going to eat out, go to Movies and attend other social activities.
I also plan to de-clutter as much as possible. I am planning to list at least 30 items on eBay and donate another huge bag of clothes that I no longer wear to charity.

I also plan to use my credit card for bills only!

Clinique VIP GWP

I got an email from Clinique today. I think they have a great selection of skin care and make-up in this GWP.

You get:
-All about eyes Serum 5ml
-Moisture surge extended thirst relief 15 ml (I use it as a moisturiser, I love it as it doesn't break me out)
-7 Day Scrub 50 ml
-Superbalanced powder make-up 3.5g
-Colour Surge eye shadow quad in Toasted Almond, Sierra Glaze, Buff and Chanpagne (I think these shades go together really well)
-Long Last Lip Gloss in Air Kiss 2.3 ml (I really like Clinique Lip Glosses)
-Clinique compact mirror
-High Impact Curling Mascara in Black 2.5 ml
-Make-up bag

My favorite things ATM - Hair related

I decided to share with you my favourite hair-related items. I still can't decide which shampoo and conditioner I like the best, so I'll leave them out.

1. GHD Hair Straightener doesn't need introduction. I'm pretty sure all of you at least heard about it. Even though I have straight hair it still works well for me. It makes it more polished and neat plus I can create curls and waves with it. I don't like when Hair Dressers use it on me though. They tend to drag it straight down making my hair limp and flat. I prefer to straighten only ends and my top section (I lift up around roots). It gives my fine hair more volume and it looks more natural.

2. Vidal Sassoon Wave Magic is great for creating waves. I prefer waves to curls as they look neater and easier to create. I have converted to clamp-less hair curlers, it only took me couple of goes to master the technique. It comes with heat resistant (but not proof!) glove and it has few different temperature options.

3. I picked up Lady Jane shower comb from Priceline for around $3. I use it all the time and I think it is a must-have tool if you use conditioner or hair treatments. It distributes product evenly and glides easily through wet hair. It can be hung in shower too - handy!

4. Redken Hair Cleansing Cream. This is the best and most gentle clarifying shampoo I've used. It removes residue of styling products and hair spray well without drying my hair. It smells great too (citrus-y). I loved it so much that I purchased 1L bottle of it.

5. Approximately one year ago my hair was very dry and lifeless. I went to Price Attack to get a decent treatment and Sales Assistant recommended me Wella Hydro Mask. I was a miracle! It transformed my hair! I still use it once per week. I loved it so much that I also got Hydro Milk, Shampoo and Conditioner (they were good, but mask was the star of the series). I've heard somewhere that it has been discontinued :( I hope they will just re-package it.

6. Best Toner for Blonde Hair award goes to Redken Blonde Glam Perfect Platinum toner/treatment. I have been using it ever since they have released it. It makes blond hair bright and clean without too much grey and blue undertones. Plus it also works as a treatment, leaving my hair very very soft.

7. I have tried and tested fair few hair sprays and Fudge Membrane Gas is the most impressive one so far. It feels like it creates an invisible membrane around your hair without making it too shiny, sticky or discoloured. It has excellent hold too.

8. When used correctly and sparingly Moroccan Oil is perfect leave-in treatment. I apply it on towel-dried hair once per week, then style (otherwise it can build-up in my porous hair). It smells divine too and one bottle will last you for years.

9. My friend gave me Mimco Bow Clip for as a Birthday present and I love it! It holds my hair well and made from good-quality plastic.

10. I couldn't master a perfect bun until I got a Hair Bun Maker! I like wearing my hair up, especially at work or when it is too hot or humid. It is also a lifesaver when you have to go out and look presentable but don't have time to style your hair. People always ask me how I've created such a perfect bun. It takes less than one minute to create it, simply tie your hair in a pony tail, slide it to the ends, roll towards you and shape bun maker. Secure with bobby pins and spray with hair spray! You can pick one up from ebay for less than $10.

"Bellabox" January 2012 edition

This month I also got a Bellabox pack in addition to ILoveThisBox.
January's there is "Out with the old, in with the new"
First thing I noticed was very pleasant herbal/citrus scent. It was Sparoma Organic natural wax Candle in Lemon Myrtle. It is a small tealight candle but I could smell it 2 metres away. I might keep it in linen cupboard to make my sheets smell really nice :)
Second item was Puretopia Hand Cream (75 ml). I use hand creams a lot especially in winter. Apparently it doesn't have any "nasty chemicals". I believe this is a full size product and it retails for $9.95
I got another lip balm this months and this one is from Pangea Organics. It is pretty big (7g) and retails for $17.95. Mine is Pyreness Lavender with Cardamom. I really like this scent for some reason, even though it is not your typical lip balm scent.
I got just one sample of La Perla EDT (some people got two), mine is J'Aime. I like taking fragrance samples with me when I'm going away for couple of days. It smells quite nice, very sweet and girly. Not overly unique nor something I would buy for myself but I can see a lot of people liking this EDT. I would describe it as fruitier version of Prada Candy.
Other samples are not as exciting but will be quite handy.
First Aid Beauty - Ultra Repair Cream
Herban Essentials Orange anti-bacterial Towelette
Soleo Organics Sunscreen
and some Qi tea (I love trying new flavours of tea)

I'm glad this box didn't contain any make-up as I have more that enough as it is. However I would have loved to receive a fragrance miniature as opposed to one 1.5 ml sample and more generous sample of skincare as opposed to just 1-2 satchet (you really can't decide if you like it or not by testing it only once)

"ILoveThisBox" January 2012 edition

So this is my first "ILoveThisBox" parcel. There are many similar services out there that will send you 4-6 products for a monthly fee of around $15. I've tried "Bellabox" and "Lust Have It" and was happy with them. They are great value as quite often you will get at least one full sized product in them worth over $15.

I've picked it up this afternoon

January theme is "Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi"

This month you get five full size products (!)

Revlon Matte Suede Nail Polish in Emerald City RRP $13.95
Gorgeous matte jewel green, unfortunately I got it few months ago and paid full price for it :(

Revlon Luxurious Colour Eyeliner in Rich Mink RRP $23.95
Very versatile shade of cool dark brown. I'll get a lot of use out of this one

ILoveThisBox Angular Eye Shadow Brush RRP $19.95
OK quality, but still going to do its job

Olive Strawberry Lip Balm RRP $7.95
All-natural product, made from Autralian olives and botanical extracts. Clear lip balm with subtle strawberry scent. You can never have too many lip balms :)

Linden Leaves Rosemary and Cypress Shampoo 85 ml RRP $11.95
Made from natural ingredients. This shampoo has very pleasant herbal fragrance. Even though the bottle is only 85 ml it should last me over 1 month

I always get excited about my monthly box. It feels like I'm getting a present each month. Plus it satisfies my beauty products cravings. One of my New Years resolutions was not to buy any beauty products and rely only on my monthly boxes, gifts and existing stash.

A walk in the park.

I always enjoy going for walks, especially around beautiful parks.
Roma Street Parklands are my favorite

I always take my time and admire beautiful flowers and plants

Roma Street Parklands located 15 minutes away (walking) from CBD centre. So city shopping + lunch (usually sushi) + walk around Roma St Parklands = day well spent.

Happy New Year everyone!

For some reason I am super excited about 2012. I love January, work isn't as busy so it is time for me to relax and unwind.

I did something new to celebrate 2012 by going camping!
I've been camping once before and it was 10 years ago. I wasn't expecting much but I really enjoyed it. We went to Girraween National Park near Stanthorpe, QLD

Girraween National Park is a part of Granite Belt therefore rocks of different forms and sizes predominate the landscape.

The wildlife was diverse too, we saw many different species of birds, kangaroos and possums. You can also find lots of pretty wild flowers, particularly in spring.

Since this National Park is elevated (900m above sea level) it can get pretty cold, especially at night. So don't forget warm clothes if you decide to go there :)
